I just finished reading the last Harry Potter book,
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Overall, I liked it, though a good section of the book wanders a bit
too much. Philosophically, I had to cringe, though, when J. K. Rowling
goes on at some length on the glories of “self-sacrifice” and how bad
it is to be “selfish.” I guess I shouldn't expect her to escape the
sadly predominant morality that permeates our society. I had, however,
hoped for more after the wonderfully anti-authoritarian themes present
in
Order of the Phoenix. Oh, well. Overall, I enjoyed the
book...but I'm not particularly sad that it is over and that (if
Rowling is true to her word) we've seen the last of Harry Potter in
fictional form.
